Being Green

It seems that not so long ago, life was simple. Work was done when you left the office. Traffic was of minimal concern. And what you were going to watch on TV that night was available on one of three stations.

US Green Building CouncilNow, technology permeates our daily lives, hurtling us through days and weeks at warp speed. Cell phones and PDAs keep us on-call 24 hours a day. Traffic jams are expected. And one of 250 TV channels ensures we're constantly aware of the major issues swirling around us - from the economy to global crises to environmental concerns.

With all this going on around us, it's easy to lose touch with simplicity in life, going back to the basics of clean air and water. Yet those basics are responsible for our health and well-being - in fact, our entire body.

On that basis, the environment and our impact on it has become a primary focus among businesses globally. And for good reason - each of us has the ability to enact change that can reduce our carbon footprint in the world. For those of us in industrial settings, I believe this change toward "greening" is obligatory.

To this point, I would like to say to you, our customers, vendors, and employees that globally we are working to leave as small of a footprint as possible. A panel of dedicated employees developed internal manufacturing goals and then implemented methods to reduce waste and consumption of natural resources. We now have a water reclamation process that reduced our water consumption by 41.3%, as well as a companywide recycling program that ensures we're keeping recyclable materials out of landfills.

We're not stopping there, though. We continue to look for new or better ways to improve our energy efficiencies in the office, in the plant, and in our products. We have more "green" in the works, so please check back periodically for our latest accomplishments.

Sincerely,
Roger R. Reynolds III
