Dallas has gotten a lot more interesting since they suspended a swimming pool overhead. Dallas News - June 21, 2007
The view down Main Street in downtown Dallas has gotten a lot more interesting since they suspended a swimming pool overhead.
That's right. In the 1500 block of Main Street, there's a rooftop pool that juts way out over the sidewalk - I'm talking yards.
Right now, it looks like a big blue fish tank. But once a few folks start frolicking around in there, there may be some traffic tie-ups down below.
The precariously perched pool is at the Joule Hotel, which opens later this year.
The concrete and glass tank is only about eight floors off the pavement. But it still looks a bit unsteady hanging over the building's edge.
Indeed, the high-rise swimming hole is the ultimate in infinity-edge pools.
Since I tend to obsess over worst-case scenarios, the very thought of only a big sheet of glass keeping all that water and people in place makes me sweat. I can visualize a waterfall of swimmers cascading down to the pavement below.
I know - it will never happen.
But I'm still not walking on that side of the street.
