Project Details

The opening of the new aquarium on the Dubai Mall is marked with the elite status of being one of the world’s largest aquariums. More than 33,000 marine animals representing 85 species will live in an aquarium that measures 167 feet long (51m) x 36 feet wide (11m) x 65 feet high (20m) – a capacity of over 2.6 million gallons of saltwater (10 million liters).

Reynolds Polymer and sister company International Concept Management, Inc. (ICM) were selected to supply R-Cast™ acrylic panels, the largest of which measures approximately 21 feet x 18 feet (6.4m x 5.5m) and is 15 inches thick (38cm) in order to withstand the pressure from the water.

In addition to the viewing panels, ICM and RPT also supplied an R-Cast™ acrylic tunnel that cut through the aquarium. The tunnel provides 180 degree views of the surrounding underwater life and measures about 154 feet long (about 47m), about 9.5 feet high (2.9m), and is roughly 7 inches thick (17.8cm).
