When it opened in 1998, the Maui Ocean Center contained main exhibits produced with RPT’s R-Cast™ acrylic. RPT provided clear acrylic viewing windows to showcase the coral reef exhibit, and provided a clear acrylic tunnel to pass through the bottom of the 750,000 gallon (2.8 million liter) shark tank. This tunnel allows visitors a chance to not only see marine animals they haven’t seen before, but to experience them from a new perspective. This tunnel is also home to sleepovers for school groups, allowing these young visitors to fall asleep while looking up at the gracefully moving sharks.
