Project Details

Reynolds Polymer Technology is constantly asked to push the limits on imagination, engineering and acrylic design. The unusual design featuring hot tubs protruding from the side of a building was initially considered a wild and crazy idea. After we stopped marveling at the idea, we decided to try to turn it into reality. With the help of talented engineers, architects, and the cooperation of the Las Vegas Palms Hotel, the acrylic hot tubs protruding from the penthouse floors of the hotel prove that we are a true leader in bringing ideas to life when it comes to acrylic.

In May 2006, The Palms Casino opened their Fantasy Tower, a $650 million expansion that includes the Sky Villas. Located on six cantilevered balconies from the 18th through the 24th floors, the giant hot tub pools provide spectacular views of the Las Vegas strip. The size of each acrylic window increases with each floor.

The Palms Casino selected this design for the suites because it was unique – the hot tubs extending beyond the building was something no one else done before. The unconventional design and themes of the tubs lends itself to the youthful party atmosphere in Vegas. At the same time, the acrylic walls create the feeling for the swimmer of floating in the air. The panels provide 180 degree views of the strip without requiring bulky or obtrusive structural corner mullions.

The construction of the project was a monumental task and required the help of local construction companies as well as our own installation supervisors. In a combined effort, Bradford Products L.L.C. worked with us and the architectural firm of Kittrell Garlock and Associates to come up with the spa design. Consultants such as Lochsa Engineering, James R. Rimelspach Architect LTD, Joe Kaplan Architectural Lighting, JBA Consulting Engineers, Kelley Communications and EDSA Cloward also helped design the suites and the spas.

Each of the six spas is made up of three-sided acrylic windows and each room has its own theme. The top-end suite is the Hugh Hefner Sky Villa, more commonly known as the Playboy Suite.

There are a total of six faceted hot tub windows with a combined weight of 21,702 pounds (9,844 kg). The smallest window on the 18th floor is 9.7 feet long x 11feet wide x 8.25 feet high (3m L x 3.4m W x 2.5m H) and measures 3 inches thick at the thickest part of the wall (76mm).

The largest suite located on the 24th floor is 13.2 feet long x 11.4 feet wide x 8.25 feet high (4m L x 3.5m W x 2.5m H) and measures 3 inches thick at the thickest part of the wall (76mm).

Each spa provides a safe and secure view for the swimmer while holding in nearly 2,500 gallons (9,464 liters) of water.
