Reynolds Polymer Technology debuts new fire-rated architectural acrylic

The Class A and Class I fire ratings of R-CastTM Dura promise to expand design possibilities for architects and designers needing to conform to fire codes. The launch of R-CastTM Dura follows quickly on the heels of last month's launch of two other architectural acrylic and resin-based products, R-CastTM Mirage and R-CastTM Textures.

Grand Junction, Colo. (PR.com) April 20, 2009 - Following much anticipation, Reynolds Polymer Technology, Inc. announced today the launch of a new fire-rated architectural acrylic product. Called R-CastTM Dura, named for the strength of the material and its Class I and Class fire ratings, this new product is a welcome addition for expanded design possibilities for architects and designers.

"We are very excited about bringing this new fire-rated product to the marketplace," said Roger Reynolds III, CEO. dura_012_low"For years, architects and designers have been clamoring for fire-retardant acrylic. It took some time on our part to develop the material, but we think the hard work will be worth it when designers realize the possibilities of this material."

Following a lengthy development cycle, R-CastTM Dura emerged from the process a clear winner. With this product, there are nearly infinite design possibilities.

"The Dura product can be as creative or as functional as you need it to be," stated Paul Gardner, Vice President of Engineering. "It's formable and bondable, so any number of custom shapes can be created. It's also available as a material in our R-CastTM Mirage product line, which allows for custom colors, graphics, or images to be reproduced on it."

R-CastTM Dura comes in solid white opaque and solid black opaque materials, which are ideal for use as-is or in the R-CastTM Textures product line. Development of a white translucent color is nearly complete, which allows for enough light transmission to be well-suited for backlit applications, such as wall sconces or illuminated paneling. Other colors are also available in the R-CastTM Dura product.

When used as a material in the R-CastTM Mirage product line, architects and designers can select from a range of standard patterns and colors, or they may submit customized images or graphics to be reproduced on the material.

In addition to the lighting applications mentioned above, R-CastTM Dura is an ideal product for use in a variety of projects, such as display cases, point of purchase displays, and furniture. The material is available in sheets as large as 4' x 8' and in standard thicknesses of ¼ inch and ½ inch; custom sheet sizes and thicknesses are possible.
