The Highly Engineered Acrylic tunnel RPT manufactured for the Rotterdam Zoo (Diergaarde Blijdorp) is one of the world’s largest and widest walk-through tunnels. Considered to be one of the oldest zoos in the Netherlands, Diergaarde Blijdorp provides visitors with a chance to experience a variety of marine life and wildlife.
The largest of the installations at the zoo, the tunnel measures 15 feet wide (4.6m), 82 feet long (25m), and 8 feet high (2.4m). The acrylic is 4 inches thick (102mm) to withstand the water pressure exerted while sitting on the floor of the Open Ocean exhibit at the aquarium. The tunnel provides 270 degree views of the marine life that swim in the large aquarium surrounding the tunnel.
RPT also supplied an acrylic sheet for use in several other exhibits, including the California Sea Lion exhibit and the penguin exhibit.
