The Arctic Ring of Life at the Detroit Zoo features a Highly Engineered Acrylic tunnel that lets visitors walk through the frigid waters to see polar bears and seals as they swim. RPT supplied the 70 foot long x 12 foot wide x 8 foot high tunnel (21.3m L x 3.7m W x 2.4m H) as part of the interactive exhibit that allows guests to view wildlife and human living environments in the Arctic Circle.
The tunnel was engineered to not only withstand water pressure, but to withstand animal impact from the polar bears pushing off the tunnel or sitting on the top of it.
