Reynolds Polymer Technology Crafts Visionary 36×13-foot Panoramic Acrylic Window for World’s Largest Underwater Restaurant

Submerged 17 feet below sea level Norwegian restaurant “Under” takes guests on an unmatched sea life dining experience

Grand Junction, Colo. (March 29, 2019) – Reynolds Polymer Technology, Inc., the world’s leader in fully integrated, highly engineered acrylic solutions, announced today that it has crafted, manufactured and installed the dramatically-designed acrylic panel for the gourmet restaurant, Under. Being hailed as the world’s largest underwater restaurant, Under will highlight the beauty of the Norwegian coastal ecosystem by offering diners breathtaking ocean views of life under the sea through a 36-foot panoramic window made possible by Reynolds Polymer Technology’s sophisticated signature bonding process and monolithic technology.

“Reynolds is overwhelmingly proud and excited to be involved with this groundbreaking concept that promotes the beauty and wonder of this region,” said Mark Johnson, Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing at Reynolds Polymer Technology. “What separates Reynolds from the competition is our engineering and fullservice capabilities to truly build the impossible. Under is a foremost illustration of the distinctive and revolutionary ideas that Reynolds Polymer Technology is able to dream up and manufacture across the globe. Our renowned process and expert reputation have preceded us for 30 years and allows our talent to construct elaborate projects that set the standard for acrylic in a variety of industries.”

Norwegian architecture firm, Snohetta, sought Reynolds Polymer Technology’s expertise to design the sizable window that completes the larger than life periscope design, surrounding guests in unobstructed views into the underwater elegance while dining on cutting-edge Norwegian delicacies. Reynolds Polymer Technology’s brilliant pursuit, a large panel set in the restaurants’ concrete body while being submerged in the North Sea, will be seen through the acrylic that will encase the restaurant and ensure guests’ safety when immersed over 17 feet underwater. Reynolds Polymer Technology was onsite to conduct the installation of the 13-foot tall acrylic piece and was integral in engineering components that guarantee guests ability to envelope themselves in an exquisite seabed setting.

“As the world’s largest and Europe’s first underwater restaurant, we knew we had to partner with experts that could truly build the impossible,” said Stig Ubostad, co-founder of Under. “Reynolds Polymer Technology was able to take a uniquely complex project and engineer an acrylic masterpiece that could not only withstand the rugged undersea conditions and incredible water pressure but provide a once in a lifetime perspective and experience for our diners.”

The three-story establishment opened its doors on March 20, 2019 and offers local land fare with a menu crafted and executed by master chef, Nicolai Ellitsgaard Pedersen. The unique idea seeks to attract diners from around the world to enjoy the allure of the South Norwegian coast. Due to the diverse marine biology in this specific area, patrons will observe an abundance of sea creatures attracted to the restaurant’s surrounding beams of light in search of nourishment. The restaurant employs its own marine biology team to create the most authentic and extraordinary experience for diners.
